Apple Pie In A Bag Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 10″ unbaked pie shell
  • 2-1/2 pounds green cooking apples
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup very soft butter or margarine
  • large brown paper bag

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°.
  2. Peel and quarter apples.
  3. Cut each quarter into 4 pieces, making approximately 7 cups of good-sized chunks (not slices).
  4. Mix chunks with 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, nutmeg and cinnamon, until each chunk is coated well.
  5. Fill pie shell with apple chunks, piling high in center of pan and then sprinkle with lemon juice.
  6. Thoroughly mix 1/2 cup each sugar, flour, and butter into a soft paste.  Spread over chunks.
  7. Place pie in brown bag.
  8. Poke a few small holes in top of bag.
  9. Bake on rack in center of oven for 1 hour.
  10. Cool 10 minutes.
