Buttermilk Pound Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2-1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon extract
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • confectioners’ sugar for sprinkling

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream sugar, shortening and margarine until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Stir in vanilla and lemon extract.
  5. Thoroughly stir together flour and baking soda.
  6. Add to creamed mixture alternately with the buttermilk, beating well after each addition, starting and ending with the flour mixture.
  7. Pour into a greased and floured 10″ tube pan and bake for 1-1/4 hours or until a toothpick inserted in cake comes out clean.
  8. Cool in pan for 10 minutes.
  9. Sprinkle with confectioners’ sugar.
