Freezes Well
Serves 4-6
Ingredients:
- 1 cup flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
- 3/4 cup dark brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1-3/4 cups hot water
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Sift flour, sugar, 2 tablespoons of the cocoa, baking powder and salt into a large bowl.
- Stir in milk, melted butter and vanilla.
- Stir until mixture is smooth.
- Stir in nuts.
- Spread mixture evenly in any size souffle dish.
- Mix brown sugar with remaining cocoa and sprinkle this mixture over the batter.
- Pour the hot water evenly over all.
- Bake for 40 minutes.
- Beat cream with confectioners’ sugar.
- Serve warm, topped with cream.
