Sugar Cookies with Sour Cream Recipe

For special occasions, decorate these cookies with edible paint (1 pound confectioners’ sugar, 2 tablespoons Wilton color flow mix, and 1/4 cup water).

Yield: 6 dozen

Ingredients:

  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 tablespoons sour cream
  • 3 cups flour sifted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions:

  1. Cream sugar and butter until fluffy.
  2. Beat in eggs, one at a time.
  3. Add extracts and sour cream.
  4. Sift flour, salt and soda.  Gradually add to mixture, blending well.
  5. Chill at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 400°.
  7. Roll out dough, small amount at a time, on a floured board.
  8. Cut with cookie cutters.
  9. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 6-9 minutes until just beginning to brown.

Note: cookies may be stored in tins for 2 weeks.
