Serves 6

Ingredients:

  • 1 pint burgundy wine
  • 2 cups sugar
  • rind of 1/2 orange
  • rind of 1/2 lemon
  • 8-10 whole cloves
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 2 pints strawberries, washed and hulled
  • confectioners’ sugar

Instructions:

  1. Combine wine, sugar, orange and lemon rinds, cloves and cinnamon, mixing until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Refrigerate in a closed jar for at least 24 hours.
  3. Strain before serving.
  4. This sauce keeps for a long time in the refrigerator.
  5. Sprinkle confectioners’ sugar over prepared berries and serve with the wine sauce.
