Ingredients:
Squares
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs, well beaten
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1-1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
Frosting
- 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 egg white, stiffly beaten
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2-3/4 cup chopped nuts
Instructions:
Squares
- Preheat oven to 325°.
- Cream shortening with sugar.
- Add beaten eggs, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and salt.
- Sift flour with baking powder, and add to sugar mixture, beating until well mixed.
- Spread mixture 1/4″ thick on a greased jelly roll pan (10″ x 15″).
Frosting
- Fold brown sugar into beaten egg white, and add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla.
- Spread evenly over uncooked batter and sprinkle with chopped nuts.
- Bake 20 minutes and cut into squares while still warm.
