Squares With Bake-On Nut Frosting Recipe

Ingredients:

Squares

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1-1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Frosting

  • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 egg white, stiffly beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2-3/4 cup chopped nuts

Instructions:

Squares

  1. Preheat oven to 325°.
  2. Cream shortening with sugar.
  3. Add beaten eggs, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and salt.
  4. Sift flour with baking powder, and add to sugar mixture, beating until well mixed.
  5. Spread mixture 1/4″ thick on a greased jelly roll pan (10″ x 15″).

Frosting

  1. Fold brown sugar into beaten egg white, and add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla.
  2. Spread evenly over uncooked batter and sprinkle with chopped nuts.
  3. Bake 20 minutes and cut into squares while still warm.
