Make Ahead
Yield: 1-1/2 dozen
Ingredients:
Brownies
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 squares unsweetened chocolate
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2/3 cup chopped nuts
Frosting
- 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
- 2 tablespoons margarine
- 1 tablespoon cream (half and half)
- 1/4 teaspoon mint extract
- green food color
Glaze
- 1 square (1 ounce) unsweetened chocolate
- 1 teaspoon margarine
Instructions:
Brownies
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Mix together dry ingredients and set aside.
- Melt shortening and chocolate and cool.
- Stir in eggs, sugar and water, then dry ingredients.
- Beat well.
- Add vanilla and nuts.
- Bake in a greased 8″ square pan for 25 minutes.
- Cool in pan.
Frosting
- Blend confectioners’ sugar, margarine, cream, extract and food color.
- Frost cooled brownies.
- Refrigerate 10 minutes to set.
Glaze
- Melt 1 square chocolate with 1 teaspoon margarine for glaze.
- Pour over one end of pan and tilt to cause to flow to opposite side of pan or drizzle on top of brownies.
- Cut in small squares.
