Chocolate Angel Pie Recipe

Serves 6-8

Ingredients:

Meringue

  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Filling

  • 1 bar German sweet chocolate
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 300°.
  2. Beat egg whites with salt and cream of tartar until foamy.
  3. Add sugar, a little at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Beat until very stiff.
  5. Fold in 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and nuts.
  6. Pile into pie tin.
  7. With back of a spoon, build a nest with meringue, forming sides 1/2″ above pan edge.
  8. Bake for 50-55 minutes, checking after 40 minutes.
  9. Stir chocolate in water over low heat or in double boiler until melted.
  10. Cool until thickened; add 1 teaspoon vanilla.
  11. Whip cream and fold into chocolate mixture.  Pile into shell.
  12. Chill 2 hours.
