Grandma’s Oatmeal Tollhouse Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon hot water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1-1/2 cups flour
  • 2 cups quick-cooking oats
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 package (6 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Cream shortening and sugars until fluffy.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Add vanilla.
  5. Dissolve baking soda in the hot water and add to mixture
  6. Sift the salt and flour together and add to mixture.
  7. Add oats, nuts and chocolate chips.
  8. Drop by half teaspoonfuls onto lightly greased cookie sheet.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
